Defense Ministry officials: Barak wanted $1 million armored car

The Defense Ministry requested to purchase an armored car worth $1 million for Defense Minister Ehud Barak but were turned down by the Treasury, Defense Ministry officials said Sunday night, confirming a Channel 10 report. Audi sent four armored A8 vehicles to Israel in May to secure the delegation of Pope Benedict and they were then sent back to Germany. But the Defense Ministry inquired whether one of the vehicles could be purchased for Barak. The Finance Ministry turned down the request and instead purchased an armored car that cost NIS 2 million less.
