Dror Alperon, son of the late Mafia kingpin Ya'acov Alperon, was smuggled out of the country by his mother Ahuva not long after serving his sentence for extortion, Army Radio reported Wednesday. Ahuva told the radio station that she helped her son leave since there was a witch-hunt against him and that "life in Israel is no life at all." Alperon had also been suspected of involvement in an attempted hit on Alperon rival Rafi Ohana. Ya'acov Alperon was killed when a car bomb exploded in his vehicle on a busy Tel Aviv thoroughfare in November 2008.
