Egypt on Wednesday said that it is not involved in the building of Israel's southern border fence, CNN Arabic reported.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, "We neither support nor oppose this process." He added, "It is an internal Israeli matter, as long as the fence is erected on the Egyptian border," according to CNN Arabic.

Work on the fence began last week, with the intention of stemming the flow of illegal migrants into the country. Work on the fence was expected to take up to a year.
