Egypt arrests seven Muslim Brotherhood members

Egyptians authorities detained seven members of the republic's largest Islamic opposition group, including three leading figures, as part of a crackdown on the organization, a leading member and the group's lawyer said Sunday. Abdel Moneim Aboul-Fotouh, a high-ranking member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was arrested in the early morning raid, as were two other senior members, said deputy leader Mohammed Habib, in what he called an attempt to silence opposition. Four other members were also detained. The Brotherhood holds a fifth of the seats in Egypt's parliament, and is a banned organization, while its members are allowed to independently contend in votes. The organization consists of the largest bloc in parliament after President Hosni Mubarak's ruling party.
