Eizenkot blames Liberman for political turmoil, Hamas 'victory'

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot criticized former defense minister Avigdor Liberman for the political turmoil in Israel as he visited the Gaza perimeter on Tuesday and met with border community leaders. according to Ynet on Tuesday.

"Hamas sees a great victory in the political process that is taking place in Israel," Eizenkot said, blaming Liberman for the political upheaval in Israel, and in turn for the continued tension near the Gaza border.

Liberman resigned as defense minister in November.

"We hope for a long ceasefire until the end of 2019," Eizenkot said as he explained he had tried to prevent the smuggling of some 15,000 rockets over the past year.
