Elderly woman dies after receiving incompatible blood transfusion

An elderly woman died in Tel Hashomer's Sheba Medical Center on Sunday after accidentally receiving an incompatible blood transfusion during an operation. The woman, in her eighties, had come in for emergency surgery due to a problem with blood vessels in her legs. An initial inquiry has raised the possibility that the medical staff did not act according to procedure in administering the blood unit. Following the incident, the anesthesiologist was suspended for two weeks, and the hospital requested that the Health Ministry set up an independent investigative committee to conduct a probe.
