In a unanimous decision 63 year old Justice Esther Hayut was voted in to be the next president of the Supreme Court.

Hayut was next in line under the seniority practice to replace outgoing President Miriam Naor.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said in July that she viewed Hayut as a “fitting” candidate for chief justice, and said she “assumed she would eventually be selected” since there are no competing candidates.

Hayut worked as a Judge in the Tel Aviv Magistrates’  and  District Court's before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 2003.
