Father: Release of Frenchwoman held in Iran is imminent

The father of a French teacher jailed in Iran said Thursday that he expected her to be released on bail within hours. Remi Reiss said that based on diplomatic activity in recent days, "the most plausible scenario" is that Clotilde Reiss will be freed later Thursday on bail of several hundred thousand euros. However, Reiss had previously told France-Inter radio that he had received no promises from Iranian or French authorities that his daughter will be freed. Clotilde Reiss was arrested July 1 after attending an opposition demonstration. She went on trial with more than 100 others accused of fomenting revolt following Iran's disputed presidential elections. A Teheran prosecutor said Wednesday that Clotilde Reiss will not be permitted to leave Iran if she wins bail.
