Father of Palestinian suspect in terror attack that killed 2 turned son in to Israelis

A Palestinian father told Israeli authorities that his son carried out Friday's shooting attack that killed two people in the West Bank on Friday, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed on Sunday.

The Shin Bet had announced earlier on Sunday that the man was arrested as part of a joint operation involving Shin Bet agents, the Duvdevan undercover unit of the IDF, and troops from the Yehuda Brigade. The man was brought into custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of Rabbi Ya’akov Litman, 40, and his son Netanel, 18, who were gunned down outside Otniel south of Hebron on Friday afternoon while they were on their way to a pre-wedding Shabbat celebration for one of Litman’s daughters.

The Shin Bet said Sunday evening that the suspect is Shadi Ahmed Matua, a 28-year-old father of two who identifies with the Islamic Jihad and resides in Hebron.

Matua's father arrived to an IDF checkpoint, telling soldiers that his son carried out the attack near Otniel.

The suspect told his brother Majdi that he carried out the attack. Majdi then told their father, who, fearing that the family's home would be demolished, informed Israeli authorities.
