Five of Israel's leading universities were ranked among the top 500 inaugural 2015 Best Global Universities rankings published by US News and World Report on Tuesday.

Weizmann Institute of Science was ranked 102, followed by Tel Aviv University with a ranking of 148. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was ranked 152 and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology was ranked 236. Ben Gurion University of the Negev also made the list with a ranking of 431.

The rankings took into account a number of factors including global research reputation, publications, total citations, number of highly cited papers, international collaboration, and number of PhDs awarded.
