Former Iranian president Rafsanjani taken to hospital with heart condition

DUBAI - Former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was taken to hospital on Sunday with a heart condition, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

"Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was hospitalized about an hour ago ... in Tehran because of a heart condition," IRNA reported, without giving further details.

Rafsanjani, 82, is still an influential figure in Iran, and heads the Expediency Council, a body which is intended to resolve disputes between the parliament and the Guardian Council.
