Incarcerated former prime minister Ehud Olmert was released for his first vacation from prison on Monday morning.

Israel Prison Service personnel will escort Olmert throughout his 48-hour leave from Massiyahu Prison in Ramle, where he is serving a minimum 19-month sentence for bribery and obstruction of justice.

Olmert's sentencing shocked the nation as he became the country's first prime minister to serve jail time.
