Meretz Chairwoman Zehava Gal-On welcomed the news of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's six-year jail sentence on Tuesday.

"Olmert's verdict opens a new chapter of cleansing the Israeli political elite of corruption," she said. "It's good that the court sent a clear and decisive message in their judgment and sentencing that public and political corruption is a disgrace and a betrayal of public trust."
