Germany's chief of military staff, General Volker Wieker, arrived in Israel on Thursday as an official guest of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot. He was received with an honor guard at IDF Headquarters in Tel Aviv, before meeting with Eisenkot to discuss common security challenges and regional developments, as well as future military cooperation.

Wieker will tour IDF bases around the country during his visit. "This visit forms a step in strengthening [bilateral] cooperation between the militaries and the countries," the IDF Spokesman Unit said.

Wieker also met with newly appointed Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman.
