Gov't lets Madoff's CFO escape some charges as part of plea deal

Bernard Madoff's former finance chief won't face charges for using drugs or for having unregistered firearms as part of his plea deal in the multibillion-dollar fraud. Frank DiPascali's plea agreement says that if he cooperates fully, he won't be prosecuted for those and other dubious activities, including deleting files from his home computer on the December day Madoff confessed to the fraud. The deal was made public on Thursday. DiPascali was jailed after he pleaded guilty Tuesday in Manhattan federal court to conspiracy in Madoff's scheme. He faces up to 125 years in prison. Madoff is already serving 150 years in prison.
