'Hamas, Fatah to meet in Cairo for reconciliation talks'

May 12, 2013 11:28

Hamas and Fatah delegation were scheduled to meet in Cairo Tuesday to discuss political reconciliation and the formation of a unity government, Palestinian news agency Maan reported a senior Hamas official as saying.

The meeting was set to entail discussions about reconvening the two rival Palestinian factions, Moussa Abu Marzouq said in the report Saturday.

Fatah and Hamas agreed in Cairo in 2011 to establish a "caretaker government" of independents ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections. The government's make-up however, curtailed elections that were due to take place within 12 months of the agreement.
