Hamas announces readiness to meet with Fatah for reconciliation talks

A high-ranking Hamas delegation in Cairo announced its preparedness to hold reconciliation talks with Fatah, Hamas said in a statement Monday night. Hamas released the statement following a meeting between its delegation in Egypt, led by its Politburo Chairman Ismail Haniyeh, and Egyptian Intelligence Chief Khalid Fawzy. “The delegation affirmed its readiness to hold meetings with Fatah in Cairo immediately to achieve an agreement,” Hamas said in a statement.
Over the past ten years, Hamas, which controls Gaza, and Fatah, which dominates the West Bank and the Palestinian Authority, have signed a number of reconciliation deals, but ultimately failed to implement them. The Hamas delegation, which includes several senior Hamas officials from Gaza and the abroad, arrived in Cairo on Sunday.
