Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Tuesday announced that Qatari emir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani raised his pledge to Gaza from $254 million to $400 million.
The emir arrived earlier in the day to a red-carpet welcome in Gaza on what is being billed as a humanitarian visit to inaugurate reconstruction projects.
He is the first head of state to visit Gaza since Egypt and Israel launched a blockade of the Palestinian enclave in 2007, breaking the isolation of its rulers Hamas.
