Hundreds demonstrate in Shfaram over indictments in Zada lynch case

Hundreds of Shfaram residents held a demonstration on Saturday afternoon in protest of the charges issued by the state against 12 Israeli Arabs who were allegedly involved in the mob lynch of Eden Natan Zada in 2005. Zada opened fire without provocation on bus passengers in Shfaram, killing four Israeli Arabs and wounding ten. Seven of the suspects were charged with attempted murder on Sunday, as well as assaulting a police officer in aggravated circumstances, hindering a policeman in the performance of his duties and causing damage. According to Israel Radio, Balad MK Jamal Zahalka on Saturday called on the court to cancel the indictments, because the defendants acted in self-defense. He claimed the security forces had intelligence on Zada's plans, but chose not to act upon the information. MK Haneen Zuabi (Balad) reportedly said that the police did not do enough to protect the bus passengers.
