IDF Chief of Staff Eisenkot, senior army officials visit Golan Heights

Senior IDF staff members, including Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, visited the Golan Heights, the army said in a statement Wednesday. The army said Eisenkot held an assessment of fighting in Syria and the general preparedness of the Northern Command.

"The IDF monitors developments in Syria and is prepared for a variety of scenarios in order to preserve the security situation in the border area," the army said.

The army also said it will continue to provide "humanitarian assistance to 'local residents' in the Syrian territory," referring to displaced Syrians, and stressed it would not allow for the crossing of Syrian refugees into Israel.
