An IDF soldier was killed while taking part in the clearing of a
minefield in the southern Golan Heights.

The soldier was of the Engineering Corps. His faily has been notified.

Ground Forces Commander Maj.-Gen. Guy Tzur appointed a committee of
inquiry to investigate the incident.

The mine exploded for unknown reasons during an advanced training
phase of the Engineering Corps, a senior army source said.

The soldiers had found and exposed a number of mines, and marked them
ahead of their clearance. For an unknown reason, tone of the mine
exploded, killing the soldier.

The mine was in full view of the soldiers and had been identified, the
source said.

The minefield in which the training occurred is Israeli, the source said.
