CAIRO - The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility on Friday for a bomb attack that killed nine people in Cairo.
In a statement on social media, it said its fighters carried out the operation that killed six policemen and three others during a raid on a booby-trapped home on Thursday near the site of Egypt's pyramids.
Islamist militants have stepped up attacks on Egyptian soldiers and police since the army toppled president Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013 after mass protests against his rule. Hundreds have died.
