Israel rejects Egypt's proposals for long-term cease-fire in Gaza

The Israeli government on Saturday rejected Egypt's bridging proposals for a long-term cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

Egyptian mediators presented their proposals over the weekend to Palestinian officials as well as to Israeli negotiators currently in Cairo.Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem told Maariv Hashavua late Saturday that the decision to turn down the Egyptian offer was made after consultations between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon.
