'Israel wants peace with Palestinians despite obstacles'

Energy and Water Minister, Silvan Shalom, met with Cypriot leaders Tuesday evening to discuss the possibilities of cooperation and the strengthening of ties between the two countries.

During discussions, Shalom commented on the possibility of resuming negotiations with the Palestinians, saying that Israel wants peace with the Palestinians although, "[they] have put forth every obstacle possible and prevented renewing negotiation without preconditions," he said. In reference to US efforts to initiate peace talks with the Palestinians, Shalom said, "Israel is prepared to respond to their request and immediately resume negotiations without preconditions. The ball in on the side of the Palestinians."
