The Jerusalem District Court on Tuesday sentenced a young Israeli Arab man to 15 months in prison for attempting to join the terrorist group know as Islamic State in Syria.

Fares Saritah, 19, from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Kfar Akeb was convicted in a plea bargain for attempting to join an "illegal organization."

According to Israel Radio, he attempted to enter Syria via Turkey, but was barred entry to Turkey because his passport was due to expire, forcing him to return to Israel.
