A 42-year-old Israeli working in Nigeria was killed in an apparent kidnapping attempt on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry announced.

According to the ministry, the family has been notified, and efforts are underway to bring the body back to Israel for burial.

According to initial reports from Nigeria, the victim was working for a construction firm near the capital of Abuja, and was shot after attempts to keep him from being kidnapped for ransom went awry.
