Interior Security Minister Gilad Erdan met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on Tuesday evening, telling him that "a large portion of antisemitism and anti-Israel beliefs in Europe come from new Muslim communities around the continent and this phenomena must be battled."
Salvini struggles against immigration into Italy and is one of the more active opponents of the policy for acceptance of refugees in the European Union. He responded to Erdan, saying that he is "proud to be here in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel."
"Whoever wants peace must support Israel and protect Israel," he continued. "Israel is a fortress of protection for Europe and the Middle East."
