Jordan spoke out today against the removal of two Waqf officials from the Temple Mount, calling it an escalation by Israel.
"We are talking about intimidation by the occupation. The wave of expulsion strengthens to us that the Gate of Mercy is a part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and not subject to negotiation, partnership, or division," said a representative of the Jordanian Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The head of the Waqf in Jerusalem and his deputy were investigated last week and it was decided that they should be removed from the Temple Mount for one week. The two are suspected of incitement, after they opened a gate on the Temple Mount which has been closed by law for more than a decade.
