Finance Minister Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid faction sent Saturday their condolences to former prime minister Ariel Sharon's family following the death of the 85-year-old.

Lapid mourned the death of the "brave soldier and commander in the battle field, and fearless leader in the political and diplomatic field as well as a personal friend."

"The State of Israel has lacked the character of the late Sharon already for eight eight years," he said.
