BEIRUT - Lebanon's military court sentenced a Sunni Islamist cleric to death by execution on Thursday for attacks against the country's army.

Authorities detained Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir, a Lebanese citizen, at Beirut airport in 2015 as he tried to leave using a forged passport. Charges against him included forming a terrorist organization and inciting violence against the army.
