Lebanon’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, the country’s leading Sunni authority, called for “jihad” against Israel to liberate “Palestine’s sacred land from Jewish foreign occupation.”

Jihad “is the duty of each and every one of you no matter how much sacrifices are made,” said Qabbani while speaking at the Mohammad al-Amin Mosque in Beirut, according to a report in the Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star on Monday.

He also lamented the lack of Arab action in confronting Israel’s ongoing operation in Gaza.
