Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman spoke Thursday night to new US Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Liberman congratulated Mattis on his Senate confirmation and the two agreed to work together on protecting Israeli and American interests in the region.

Liberman's spokesperson characterized the conversation as "warm and friendly."
