Local Authorities may strike in support of social workers

The Union of Local Authorities was threatening to strike in solidarity with the social workers for one day on Tuesday, as negotiations between the social workers and Finance Ministry struggled to reach an agreement to end the strike at the end of its ninth day.
Social workers are demanding better working conditions and salaries, for the ten thousand of them employed directly by the state and local authorities, as well as the five thousand working for various state-supported NGOs.
The Union of Social Workers' spokesman told The Jerusalem Post late Monday night that the gaps between the sides were still very large. “There doesn't seem to be a solution, and the strike will continue,” he wrote in a text message from the negotiating room.
