Low turnout in run-off of first phase of Egypt election

Egypt's High Election Committee announced on Friday a low turnout in the country's first parliament election in three years, the final step on a roadmap that is meant to lead Egypt to democracy but which critics say has been undermined by widespread repression.
The election committee's chairman, Ayman Abbas, said only a quarter of the electorate turned up last week for round one of the election of Egypt's parliament."The percentage of votes in the first round reached 26.69 percent. This is not the lowest turnout percentage in parliamentary election (history)," Abbas told journalists.
