Former chief of staff, Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and opposition leader MK Shelly Yachimovich met this morning for a farewell call. Yachimovich said that the Israeli public is grateful to Eisenkot for his enormous contribution to national security. 'Eisenkot faced extraordinary challenges, with threats on multiple fronts... while avoiding a war that would have caused many casualties,' Yachimovich said. 'In the face of a unbridled and irresponsible political echelon, he was an axis of responsibility, concern, modesty and statecraft, and for this we will thank him for many years to come. '
