Magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolts southern Iran

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's seismological center reported Monday a magnitude 6.1 earthquake had jolted a remote mountainous area in southern Iran.
The center said the quake shook a sparsely populated district of Konar Takhteh, some 560 miles (900 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Tehran.
There have been no reports of casualties. The semi-official Mehr news agency says the quake shook the area for about 10 seconds.
The US Geological Survey put the quake's strength at magnitude 5.7.
