Head of the IDF OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Gadi Shamni was appointed Thursday night the next military attaché in Washington DC, in place of Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz, who was recently appointed the next IDF deputy chief of general staff. Shamni will be replaced by Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrachi, current head of the IDF Ground Forces Command. Shamni, a paratroopers officer, served as the commander of the Gaza Division and has over the past two years been working together the Americans and the Palestinians to improve the quality of life in the West Bank.
