Major power transfer follows day of harsh criticism on Mitzpe Neftoah project

The day after the Jerusalem Municipality slammed plans to build a new neighborhood in the protected nature are of Mitzpe Neftoah, the project has had a major authority transfer.

On Wednesday, the National Board for Prioritized Residential Projects (VATMAL) announced that the project, called Plan 1012-Ramot Hillside, would be transferred to the authority of the Jerusalem Regional Planning Committee, according to a statement from the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel.

In a meeting to present objections to the project on Tuesday, Yesh Atid MK Mickey Levy threatened that “if the plan goes through, then the government will look to take powers away from the VATMAL.”

The plan aims to build 1,400 housing units on the 4.1 hectare (10 acre) hilltop adjacent the city's Ramot neighborhood.
