Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On has called on Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein to launch an investigation into whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife kept thousands of shekels from bottle deposits that belonged to the state.

According to Israeli media, since 2009, Sara Netanyahu pocketed money from deposits on recycled bottles from the Prime Minister's Residence, which were state property.

"If there is truth to the claims made about Netanyahu, he must pull his candidacy from the Prime Minister's race and go home," Gal-On said in a statement on Saturday. .
