Meretz Chairwoman MK Zehava Gal-On announced Saturday that her party will hold early primary elections nearly two years ahead of schedule.

"I want to share with you that even though I was elected chairman of Meretz for a four-year term, and it's only been two years, I'm going to put myself for re-election right now," Gal-On said.

"My responsibility as head of Meretz is to work to expand the party and ...(appeal) to new audiences, and to represent the general public who believe in our values," she added.
