Nasrallah blames Israel for 'Der Spiegel' report on Hariri

Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah on Monday accused Israel of being behind a report by a German magazine that implicated the Shi'ite group in the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. Speaking at a rally in south Beirut, Nasrallah said the Der Spiegel report aimed to foment strife between Lebanon's Sunnis and Shi'ites. Hizbullah dismissed Saturday's report as based on "fabrications." After Hariri's killing, many blamed Syria, which had long dominated Lebanese affairs. Syria denied it had a role. The Der Spiegel report, however, quoted sources close to the international tribunal investigating the killing as saying that Hizbullah carried it out, not Syria.
