Dozens of people on bikes and rollerblades, clad in nothing beyond thongs and lawfully wearing helmets, rode through Tel Aviv on Tuesday night in a protest visualizing their exposed condition on Israel's roads. The organizers said they hoped to gain public support for a cancellation of the law obligating helmets. They explained that in hot weather, the law prevents many people from riding bikes and rollerblades due to the discomfort of wearing a helmet in such conditions. In addition, the ride protested the lack of government legislation that would promote paving lanes designated for safe and environmentally friendly non-motorized means of transportation.
