Netanyahu: Olim have 'changed the face of Israeli society'

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke of immigration to Israel on Sunday, at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting. "Today, we mark 20 years since the great wave of immigration to the State of Israel. Twenty years have passed since the Iron Curtain fell, since the gates of the Soviet Union were opened to free emigration," the prime minister said. He said that approximately 1 million olim from the former Soviet Union, as well as from Ethiopia, the US and Europe, had "changed the face of Israeli society."
