Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement on Tuesday night in which he voiced his support for the appointment of Gal Hirsch as Israel's next chief of police.

"As inspector-general of the police he will bring the police forward to face its challenges and at the same time he will work to improve the personal security of the citizens of Israel and strengthen the rule of law," Netanyahu said.
