A new commander of the elite Egoz unit formally took up his position on Monday at a ceremony at the unit's base in the North.

Lt.-Col. R (full name cannot be disclosed) was appointed to replace Lt.-Col. Y, who commanded the unit for the past two years.

Egoz is one of the four units that make up the Commando Brigade. It specializes in guerrilla warfare, camouflage, and exploiting terrain to strike enemies.

During a ceremony at Shraga Base near Acre, the incoming unit commander said all of its members operate "under the unique and brave approach of the Commando Brigade. The nation and senior command have high hopes for us, and we are committed to them."
