New car inspection test period extended

New cars that have gone on the road on or after January 1, 2016, can now wait three years for their first vehicle inspection test, as opposed to the previous two-year time frame, the Transportation Ministry declared on Wednesday.

The first test must occur within three years from the vehicle purchasing date, the ministry said. Following that exam, future tests must then occur annually.

The decision to extend the initial testing period for new cars aims to reduce bureaucracy and save drivers both time and the cost of the test, while the increased use of electronic alert systems in these vehicles reduces the fear of an improperly operating car, the ministry said.
