Nigerian FM asks US that country be taken off American security list

Nigeria asks to be taken

Nigeria has asked the US government to take it off a list of nations considered to have terrorism activity after a failed bombing of an airliner. Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Ojo Maduekwe told reporters Tuesday that he met with US Ambassador Robin R. Sanders to demand his country be removed from the list of 14 nations. The US Transportation Security Administration has directed airlines to give full-body pat-downs to US-bound travelers from those nations. A US Embassy spokesman in Abuja declined to comment. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian who claims ties to al-Qaida, remained in US custody, charged with trying to destroy a Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day.
