One million Latin Americans demand Schalit's release

Brazilian-based pro-Israel organization AMISRAEL has managed to collect one million signatures in the past three weeks from Latin American citizens of all persuasions, demanding the release of captive IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, who has been held by Hamas in Gaza for over four years.
The petitioners have called on former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who has connections to Iran, to become directly involved in efforts to free the young man.
Half a million signatures were collected from Mexico, followed by support from Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Guatemala, Argentina, Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Panama and Puerto Rico.
The organization plans to continue collecting signatures.
It may also ask Vice Premier Silvan Shalom to present the signatures to da Silva.
