Ovadia Yosef survives major back surgery

Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef awakened on Monday evening from major orthopedic surgery at Hadassah University Medical Center to repair damage do his spine, the hospital said.

The 93-year-old rabbi had been in much pain in recent weeks follow a fall in his home. The surgery was successful. He will be transferred out of an intensive care department to a regular department for supervision on Tuesday.
