Palestinian 'Arab Idol' winner named UN, PA ambassador

Gazan singer Mohammed Assaf has been named goodwill ambassador for both the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations, marking the first Palestinian goodwill ambassador for the UN, according to Palestinian media.Assaf won the "Arab Idol" song contest final held in Beirut on Saturday night.Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Assaf will have “full diplomatic privileges," describing his achievement as a “victory” for the Palestinian people, PA news agency WAFA reported.
